Art
The first image is an example of the sculpting style traditionally adopted by colonists. The image of the goddess Europe sitting on a throne symbolizes European colonial endeavors. Supernatural beings can be seen in several works of art. The second picture shows a finely dressed lady of high birth. This is also a style you will see in many paintings. Artists in our colony tend to depict noblemen and women, or people of otherwise high birth. In their drawings, they like to show lavish lifestyles, something not everyone has. ♥
Architecture
While many people representing different ethnicities live in our colony, Dutch architecture is particularly influential because of their period of rule. Our unique architecture has roots in the late Medieval to early Renaissance period. Most houses are built with red brick or stone.
Their roofs also have a certain unique shape that looks like the roof of a barn, known as the Gambrel roof. However, some of the houses have steep, gabled roofs instead of the Gambrel roof, with some of these being crow-stepped. This is to make access to the roof (specifically, the attic) more convenient.
The roofs also have two distinct chimneys, one on each end, or occasionally one large chimney that is, in some cases, shaped like a wishbone. Such houses are very rare, and only a few exist in the colony. The majority of the population also has small, hinged casement windows.
Dutch Doors are also very common in our houses. The Dutch Door is an extremely useful style, because the top and the bottom portions can be opened separately. The top can be opened to let in fresh air, while the bottom may be closed to keep out unwanted animals or vermin. ♥

Clothing and Fashion
Before the conquest of the colony by the Duke of York, settlers wore simple, practical clothes tailored for everyday work. Now, we also have access to English fashion such as buckles, buttons, and wigs for men, along with fancy satin gowns, frills, and fans for women. Such clothes are worn mainly by our population of gentry.
Middle-class colonists still wear linen or wool dresses, leather shoes, petticoats, skirts, and cloaks (women and girls), as well as knee-high breeches, linen shirts, beaver caps (men), and even baggy pants (primarily boys). Most of these clothes are made at home by the women using wool or linen on a spinning wheel.
Slaves wear simpler clothes that mimic the style of the middle-class colonists, and are more durable. ♥

Food
The food in New York is primarily of Dutch origin, though people certainly ate foods of other backgrounds. The two shown above are really Dutch-German foods. The one on the left is a dish known as a hutspot (hodgepodge in English). This is a stew or mash of typically vegetables (such as corn or potatoes) and sometimes meat (for example, fish). On the right, a pastry called Olie-koecken is displayed. Olie-koecken is a very common and tasty pastry eaten by the whole population. Fruits of every kind are also eaten along with milk and cream and butter, making a very rounded and healthy cuisine. ♥
